We all know that WordPress is the premiere blogging software in the world today. One only needs to look at the numbers to see that it surpasses all competition. This is primarily because it’s so easy to use. Not only for the bloggers themselves, but for their visitors, too. Yet, some bloggers continue to hold out, using other software that really isn’t up to WordPress standards. Let’s take a look at the top 10 blogs that aren’t using WordPress, but should be:
- Sherdog MMA blog – As part of the Craveonline Network, you would think this powerful blog would want to showcase cage fighting beat downs in a more effective way. That doesn’t appear to be the case. Instead, we are greeted with a cluttered and somewhat confusing array of options that would never fly on a WordPress blog. Navigation is tough on this blog so it really could use a better layout to help visitors find the content they want.
- Asia Carrera’s Bulletin – Ouch! This blog definitely needs a layout that is a wee bit better than what it’s got right now. The green text on black certainly grabs the eyes, but it also punishes you for looking too long. Navigation is all but absent and if you’re new, good luck finding anything you might have missed so far. A proper blogging platform could remedy this immediately.
- This isn’t happiness. – This popular image blog is one of the top on Technorati and for good reason. It plays host to a constant stream of provocative, funny or thoughtful images. At the same time, as ingenious as the images are, the layout is abysmal. It is difficult for a visitor to find much of anything without having to scroll down constantly and this is surely leading to poor site exploration. Time to get WordPress!
- Jezebel - This blog about un-airbrushed celebrity, sex and fashion for women has an inspiring layout, but it unfortunately overlaps at the top. These struggles to rectify design issues are often difficult to fix. Yet another blog that could make use of the world’s top open source blogging software.
- Deadspin – A destination for those seeking news and sports updates, Deadspin certainly does an admirable job at delivering content. No wonder it’s one of the top blogs online. Still, the design looks eerily similar to the design of Jezebel and really misses the mark when it comes to easy navigation.
- Seth’s Blog – Seth Godin, an internationally renowned author and global marketing expert isn’t using WordPress. As a result, his site is a little bit hard on the eyes. While Typepad might offer some ease of use, it certainly is not nearly as capable of displaying a blog that’s easy to read and a pleasure to browse.
- Just Jared - Another bit time celebrity blog not using the best possible software. Sure, this site has a lot to offer visually, but it is quite crammed together. The bars along the side don’t fit the screen properly and the site itself could benefit from a cleaner design that WordPress can provide.
- Apple Insider - For such a big name in blogging, one would think this site would want to facilitate more intuitive browsing, but the evidence speaks to the contrary.
- Joystiq – Gaming sites are notorious for slow loading times and Joystiq has missed the boat. WordPress plugins easily allow you to cache the site and compress images for faster loading times such as would benefit this site.
- Crooks and Liars – A big name in political pundit blogs, this website features some layout issues that WordPress could remedy instantly. Instead, it has an amateur-ish look that could be so easily improved by a blogging software switch.
